I'm feeling bold and visible this week. We are part of an art show at the University opening next week so I've been thinking about what to wear. This isn't a black tie event but rather a casual evening where we stand by our art meeting artists and students. I need to look creative, approachable and comfortable. My art is detailed and colorful so this dress with a zig zag pattern caught my eye and at a reduced price even better. I also plan to wear it with cream tights and silver pumps for a more glamorous effect.
If you didn't see the post by Catherine of Not Dressed as Lamb on blogging after 40, take a look. She writes clearly about the many advantages of being part of the 40+ blogging community and states the many reasons personal styling gets better with age. I'm so excited to meet other women who know life is still going strong after 40!

Such a great print on this dress, Ann! I love it and you can do so much with it! Your jacket is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't be stood in the "no smoking" section in that outfit
ReplyDeleteIts very "smoking" !!!
Great dress xx
You have my husband chuckling over this comment, Thanks for your humor, you are making my day!
DeleteLove the great pattern on this dress! And the snood looks so cozy. You make winter dressing look so easy! Have fun at your event and I can't wait to see this styled with cream and metallics.

You always look so stylish and colourful. I love seeing your posts. Fantastic photography and backdrops too! Lynne x
ReplyDeleteOh thanks, the posts are fun to make. I appreciate the comment.
DeleteAnn, so beautiful and had already read 40+ post. Wonderful being older and being able to blog, right? Enjoy your event! Sabina OceanblueStyle
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! This is so lovely and fun against the Red background. The Navy bag is an unexpected treat as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful showing and have fun!
Love it and that you are feeling bold. It must be the excitement and energy coming out, as the art show approaches. You look stunning in the outfit and I like the idea on cream tights and silver shoes. You will have to post that combination.
ReplyDeleteI just attended a seminar recently and the speaker mentioned how at 50 it used to be the down hill slope but now it is the up hill climb. People are reinventing themselves and starting new businesses, etc. I'm thankful, since I will be 49 in just a couple of week.

I agree with you, 50 is different than it was for our mother's generation. Happy birthday to you!
DeleteAll I can say is WOW!! I love this zingy outfit which looks sensational against the red brick background. BCBG should pay you to model their clothes because you look great in everything you wear from them. You are definitely right about the over 40 blogging community showing that there is life after 40. I speak from a perspective of one barely still in her 60s but more interested in style and looking great than ever before!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rebecca, I do adore so many of pieces by BCBG especially the jackets and knit items. They make so many options each season for all ages. It is exciting to think about aging with style. Redefining what middle age looks like is an interesting proposition for many of us isn't it?!
DeleteI love this dress! You always look so chic!
ReplyDeleteThe world colour itself to make you shine, dear Ann.
ReplyDeleteWonderful combination of shades and textures.

What a great graphic print!
ReplyDeletewouuau, such a pretty print and such fabulous pics, love that red bricks background!, and you look gorgeous!
ReplyDeletebesos
Dear Ann, this pattern dress is so beautyful and i´m sure with cream tights the dress will look great. But i like this combination too, The brown jacket is just perfect and to take a blue bag is a pretty idea.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a great show next week.

Excellent, in itself, and for the art show you're part of.
ReplyDeleteAnn, your dress is very similar to the Trina Turk "dress" I wore earlier this week. How bold of you to wear it with the blue bag and booties. As always...you look great! Here is the link to the similar outfit - http://sowhattotwenty.blogspot.com/2014/01/dress.html#.UtYMMPvDt_c
ReplyDeleteLovely bold outfit! The brown tones sort of warm up and soften the geometric pattern. And dark blue is a nice and unexpected accent.
ReplyDeleteI hope your art show goes well. I wish I could be there - I'd love to see it close up!
One more beautiful dress of yours, Ann! I love its geometric print and warm brown colour. The tights and the jacket create perfect combination and the shoes and the bag in blue add more zest to the look. Stunning!
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks gorgeous on you, Ann! Very striking! Have a wonderful art show! Great choice!
ReplyDeleteI love your dress, it's beautiful. The geometric print is wonderful, and also the color combination. The outfit with the leather jacket and the neck is perfect. The blue bag is bold and sophisticated detail. A look stunning.
ReplyDeleteBold, but very elegant. You always look chic and looking cheerful. I love the blue note on the outfit.
ReplyDeleteI love the whole look! Fun but elegant. :)
ReplyDeleteAs an artist, your life must be full of social events and that requires the right outfit! The dress that you are wearing is pretty and modern. It has an unusual pattern, which seems a picture itself! It's perfect for the show!! I think that students will love you!!
ReplyDeleteI do have some events but really not as many as you would think. Many days I just just colored jeans, a cotton sweater and a down coat when I'm at the studio. I do like to dress in something unusual for shows, colorful or patterned. I guess something that isn't conservative or as classic as I would normally wear.
DeleteAlthough the cowl is not the star of the show, I just have to comment on how cuddly it looks. Seriously, I'd want to wear it to bed, it just looks so soft and cozy.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the use of navy accessories in your outfit! These little nuances don't go unnoticed!
Yes this cowl is soft. I was looking through the sale pile of scarfs and this stood out as nice so I picked it up. it's been so cold here this month it might be a good idea to wear it to bed!

ReplyDeleteYay!! We both are wearing graphic patterns. I love the earth-tones on yours and the blue touch of your bag. This is a stunning look.

A very good dress. You look fabulous in it. Nice touch to combine it with a blue bag. Would not have thought of that.
ReplyDeletePlease show us this dress with the cream tights and silver pumps (the latter ones are on my wish list).
Greetje
Thanks Greetje, just ran out of time to get the picture with outfit a coat. Maybe as spring comes I will post this dress again. It's been pretty cold here, I should say really cold until recently. I think this dress would look best worn in a minimal way with the light tights and silver pumps. It been hard to get outside without a coat.
DeleteOMG! I so LOVE this outfit. You look fabulous! :)
ReplyDeleteYour look is very creative! Impact is so special in front of the bick wall (you find allways so special backsite for the photos), tayloing seems to be refined and confortable, the patterns makes it a handwoven-like. With the wintershoes the easult is a complet afternoon set - perfect for events you described.
ReplyDeleteYou look great! I love the bold print on your dress

Anne, this is so pretty and super elegant without overdoing it! I love the jacket - all tough but with elegant lines and fit. Stunning!

You are stunning and bold, as usual. I love the print- and the way each piece looks so well put together but not a whiff of matchy matchy. I'm afraid your amazing handbag has distracted me from your shoes! You rock!
ReplyDeleteBold, beautiful and perfect for your art show. You will turn many heads in a crowd. I'm off to check out Catherine's post!
ReplyDeleteI feel so honored to have gotten to know you over the last six months. Being a blogger over 40, I quite agree. My goals are different than I younger blogger and I am NOT so desperate to please as they might have to be. It's very freeing. You will look divine at your art show I hope it goes/went well!
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit! I think it is perfect for the art show. I am almost there. I turn thirty seven this year. Time flies! You look great! Forty is hot!
ReplyDeleteJenni
Well, you achieved your sartorial goal ... artistic, approachable and comfy. And, as always pretty as can be. Excellent jacket, and I'll bet the dress beneath is ready for complete reveal if the party gets warm. Since I can't be the first to pun on "smokin" then I'll just have to declare that "Nobody puts Ann in the corner!"
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!! That print is perfection.
ReplyDeleteThe terrific jacket is even more fab with the addition of the cowl. You look wonderful! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.
ReplyDeleteAnn, this is the perfect blend of bold and beautiful. It will look exceptional bold with those cream tights and silver shoes.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great, bold look.
