Casual in the Blue Light

As the warm summer light fades to cooler tones, I'm hanging on to wearing sandals as long as possible. Today I wore a more casual outfit so you don't think I'm always wearing heals and a dress. I combined cotton pants with a faux leather zip up jacket. I used to wear mostly solid colored items, but in the last few years I've been attracted to prints.

Some of you might have wondered why I called my blog Blue Hue Wonderland. The blue hue refers to the tone of the northern light in the fall and winter. You can see this in these pictures and this is my favorite time of the year. I started blogging in January of this year and during the snow covered winter Minnesota is a wonderland.

    1. Wearing patterned on pants is a new thing for me. Since blogging I've seen how quickly styles come and go. I thought I'd fit these in before the weather changes.

    1. Thanks Rebecca for commenting. I wear colored jeans to the studio but I've never been much of a blue jean wearer. Maybe that will change sometime. Half the fun of blogging is coming up with a background to accent the styling of the clothes!

  14. Greetings! I appreciate the invite to the Not Dead yet Style. I hadn't heard of them before. I'd be very interested in exploring it. Although I'm turning 56 (on Monday), I refuse to wear sloppy sweats and a backwards baseball cap;). I also look forward, to reading more of your work. BTW: The photos are fab, and you radiate confidence.

    1. Ah, I know what you mean. I went several years not dressing up at all while my parents were so ill and I don't want to go back to that way. I adore beautifully designed clothing and I'm not afraid to wear it. If you have made it to 50, haven't you worn just about everything there is in fashion? What is there to be afraid of? Well happy birthday! There's a wonderful variety of women with much to say that enjoy this link up at Not Dead yet Style.

    2. Ann, I appreciate your prompt response and also the birthday well-wish. I've finally found the styles that looks good on me, even though it took decades of wearing fashion flops. I wanna age gracefully, but also with gusto!

  16. It looks like you're in a blue hue wonderland with that background. What a fun outfit, nice and bright and holding on to some summer warmth as long as possible. I was hoping to keep wearing sandals for awhile (and even repainted my nails), but it went straight for rainy to chilly here.

    You look just gorgeous!

  17. I love the brightness of your red jacket. It is an instant eye-catcher as well as the pants - what lovely colour and print. You look no less fabulous in your casual outfit then you do in dresses and high-heels.

  18. Beautiful look, Ann! Love the bright red and blue together. While it is getting colder here and when I cannot wear my dresses, I also wear trousers and pumps or peep toes before I will have to switch to boots. I think these trousers will look great with booties too.

    1. Good idea, I have some purple booties that would look good with these pants. It has just turn cold in the last couple of days so sandals are soon to be stored for spring.

  22. Blue is one of my favorite colors; maybe it's because of my history in Minnesota. Your description of the norther lights rings true for me.

You and your incredible outfit belong on stage!

  23. I wondered about the title. Vancouver is blue/grey all year long, which for me is epitomized in the work of Emily Carr, historically one of our most celebrated local painters. I find her work depressing.
But you pop here. The blue is not depressing in the least. Your shot of the shoes on the bench, gaaaa. Love that! You're gorgeous.

    1. It's sunny and hot here in the summer. This week was the change in the light. It's almost strange, like someone turning the light switch off in a room. I had a vitamin D tested last year and it was low, this is a problem for so many people, Not enough sunlight in the fall and winter. I do love it this time of year because everything feels more cozy at home and at the studio. Although by February you can feel a bit crazy for more sunlight. Many people vacation in Florida or the Caribbean after Christmas to get some sunlight.

Of course these photos are pure art again. And I would not call this outfit casual. Sorry but be no means is this casual. It it beautiful. The shoes..... So nice with the two colours. (Again, what a photo with that light. I so long to be better at photographing.)

  35. Ann, why am I not surprised that even when casually dressed, you have that je ne sais quois! I'd wear this combination in a heart beat. I loved reading about your blog name on Sylvia's website. I was always intrigued by it. I got my hair cut last week....not quite as short as I'm planning to go, but even so, it feels so much more suitable for me. Appreciate your post on the subject!

  38. This is such a great look and the shoes are very stylish, yet they look comfortable. It is so hard to find cute comfortable shoes. I am still wearing sandals, but it keeps getting colder, so I think my days are numbered. The red looks so great against the blue pants and I bet a crisp white shirt would look pretty amazing too.
