Black with Fire Red
I try to stay away from wearing black coats these days but the vintage design of this Guess coat grabbed me as soon as I tried it on. I do like wearing black but I seem to be involved in activities at the studio that make dust and we had shared our lives with a special cat for many years. A lint roller was positioned near the door for at least two decades!
Today I'm wearing an outfit I'd wear to a casual holiday evening dinner with friends. I wear a variety of bright jeans often, especially in this fire red. When worn with a silk blouse and booties, I can wear this outfit just about anywhere.
What are you wearing to casual holiday gatherings?
coat--guess (here)
blouse--the limited (thrifted)
boots--bandolino (here)
jeans--jones new york (here)
purse--calvin klein (same bag, silver trim)
location--mural at a community center and pictures by dean

such a fabulous coat and lovely color combo (one of my favorites!), you look gorgeous!, and your backgrounds are always amazing!

Sometimes black and red ensembles can look harsh, but wow, not this one! I think the warmth of the reds you've chosen really works well. Fabulous coat!!! And stunning backdrops as always.
ReplyDeleteI've been experimenting with the colors that almost has a florissant quality for a while now and I think it works great if you are light in coloring. Colors like this vibrant red or purple or even cobalt and magenta seem to work on me. I think they might work well with silver hair also. It's so dark here in Minnesota right now, wearing color does help.
DeleteThis is an awesome coat on you, Ann...you were so smart to grab it up...and, of course, I love your pictures...as I usually do! This looks incredible.
ReplyDeleteFabulous my dear!! Your coat is amazing and well done with those bright red pants. I love it!!! and btw, my pants are orange, they look red in certain monitors…lol.

This is such a nice coat and black looks always great with red. The bright pants gives your outfit a coloful touch. Dear Ann, a perfect outfit for a dinner with friends.
ReplyDeleteGreat red pants! Casual dinners with family will probably be red corduroys....
ReplyDeleteI'm finding it difficult to type, as I am drooling over this entire look :) You nailed it! And as Rachel Zoe would say...That coat is BANANAS
ReplyDeleteAh Glenda you are funny....thanks so much!
DeleteStopping by from Pleated Poppy - WIWW! You always have the coolest shoot locations. Love these images. I've been going with jeans and a fancy sweater for my casual holiday parties.

I get a very cool '60s vibe from this coat. It's gorgeous. Again, perfect harmony between the outfit and your surroundings. How do you do it? Love it all!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great backdrop for your sharp & sassy outfit. You look great (as always!) Ann.
ReplyDeleteYou always manage to find the very best locations for your shoots.
ReplyDeleteI need to get my tripod to take photos with great angles like this.
Bold bright pants.
I do dresses for parties.

Beautiful! I cannot stand it any longer... I think I need to fly to your part of the world and play in your jacket/coat closet! What a fab coat. The black and red is so flattering on you Ann
ReplyDeleteAny time Deborah, my closet is open to you!
DeleteThe coat is awesome, and the Red electrifying, gorgeous outfit! I will definitely follow your advice about the lint roller and keeping tags on sale items. Great ensemble!

Love the color combo, beautiful outfit!
ReplyDeleteGreat location you have chosen for the shoot, as always :-)
Happy Day!

Love black and red in front of the colorful wall.

The colorful location at your back makes your photos unique! The coat is lovable and you can wear it in combination with every colour. with red it is great!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any special outfit for my casual evening out, what I wear largely depends on my mood...( and in the evening I like very much staying at home ....too many interesting things to do there!!)
Love the mix and the jacket ! Sabina Styleblog Only in Frankfurt
ReplyDeleteI have jeans in exactly the same red, but unfortunately my black coat isn't as classy as this one...but I love red and black together, it always looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThis red seems to go with so much. I also like mine with gray and olive. Thanks for commenting Pat.
DeleteYou find the most AMAZINGLY AWESOME backdrops for your photos. And then, of course, it doesn't hurt that you're so very photogenic...You look stunning. I absolutely love your coat. It manages to look both cuddly and svelte. Oh, and chic. So now I have coat envy. And your trousers are brilliant, in several senses of the word. The bright, bright red just makes it all fun. And noticeable (also...I adore the scarf! love scarves actually tied at the neck)
ReplyDeleteOh thanks so much! Backgrounds seem to be everywhere when you start looking around. I really like colorful ones like this one. Although tonight the wind chill is -30 below zero, what a change from the day we did these pictures. I'm going to have to move inside with the photos until the weather changes....burr!
DeleteGreat coat , great shots and great location -
ReplyDeleteQuestion - how was the second shot taken? was the photographer high up somewhere?

I'm 5'5" and Dean is 6'2". He holds the camera up as high as he can and lets the auto focus do it's job. I like this effect, different angles help round out a post when wearing one outfit.
DeleteHello! I love this outfit, reminds me of Twiggy. The colors come together really well and it looks cozy!
ReplyDeleteI followed your blog, can't wait to see future posts!

Where do you find so many gorgeous coats?!? I love the way this one looks both biker and Broadway somehow. And the red pants are just the thing for this dark time of the year.
ReplyDeleteI buy almost everything at Macy's and a bit of thrifting. Biker and Broadway......that's interesting! I'm just trying to have more fun with my pictures. Maybe kinda goofy, but why not. I've often thought the way we wear seasonal colors, like darker in the winter, really should be flipped. It's so dark now, you need some bright tones.
DeleteFabulous from every angel, my dear Ann.

Gorgeous! I've always loved a bright red pant. Timeless.
ReplyDeleteOh yes please... black and red, favourites of mine. Also yellow and black. I am sorry, but I like black as a background piece or a contrast piece. But I have the idea I should try and risk more with combining colours.
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit, this coat. Would have liked to see what blouse you were wearing with the trousers.

It's so cold now, hard to remove coats outside. This week now is unbearable arround 0 with wind chills at -10. Going to try to take pictures tomorrow outside. Glad you like it! Thought about your comment last week about the length of coat. This coat is the same and think you are right, good with pants.
DeleteDon't take my comments to seriously. I am far from an expert in styling. Believe me. Besides ... so many people.. so many opinions.
DeleteHow big is your coat collection? I swear you're always wearing a fabulous one!
ReplyDeleteI do have many coats and it's really cold here in MN. I do love coats most of all the types of clothing.
DeleteStopping by from Love it Link-up! I love the color of these jeans, so bright and festive!

Fantastic coat Ann, very interesting design and cut! Looks great with the fire red! And what a fab mosaic behind you :) hugs, Beata
ReplyDeleteThis gorgeous coat deserves to be in your closet. And the fire red jeans? Perfect with the mural for background. I'm feeling more festive after visiting your beautiful space in blogger land.
ReplyDelete-30?! YIKES! And you looks so stunning and not the least bit chilly… you are so professional ;) Love the coat and can't imagine not being able to wear a black coat of black sweater or black pants. The entire basis of my wardrobe is (you guessed it) black. And yes, my lint roller is by the door - front, back and in the closet as well!
ReplyDeletexo ~kim (& chloe)
Stunning silhouette and colors, Ann! You look festive and lovely. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't stay away from that black coat either. WOW! Thank you for this fun outfit idea for a casual holiday gathering. It's lively, chic, and holiday ready all in one package. Yet I kind of think the model (you) make it appear one step higher than normal.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I simply cannot believe that isn't vintage. I immediately zoomed over to GAP to see if it was available. It's NOT! Super cute.
