Black with Fire Red

I try to stay away from wearing black coats these days but the vintage design of this Guess coat grabbed me as soon as I tried it on. I do like wearing black but I seem to be involved in activities at the studio that make dust and we had shared our lives with a special cat for many years.  A lint roller was positioned near the door for at least two decades!

Today I'm wearing an outfit I'd wear to a casual holiday evening dinner with friends. I wear a variety of bright jeans often, especially in this fire red. When worn with a silk blouse and booties, I can wear this outfit just about anywhere.

What are you wearing to casual holiday gatherings?

  2. Sometimes black and red ensembles can look harsh, but wow, not this one! I think the warmth of the reds you've chosen really works well. Fabulous coat!!! And stunning backdrops as always.

    1. I've been experimenting with the colors that almost has a florissant quality for a while now and I think it works great if you are light in coloring. Colors like this vibrant red or purple or even cobalt and magenta seem to work on me. I think they might work well with silver hair also. It's so dark here in Minnesota right now, wearing color does help.

I don't have any special outfit for my casual evening out, what I wear largely depends on my mood...( and in the evening I like very much staying at home ....too many interesting things to do there!!)

  22. You find the most AMAZINGLY AWESOME backdrops for your photos. And then, of course, it doesn't hurt that you're so very photogenic...You look stunning. I absolutely love your coat. It manages to look both cuddly and svelte. Oh, and chic. So now I have coat envy. And your trousers are brilliant, in several senses of the word. The bright, bright red just makes it all fun. And noticeable (also...I adore the scarf! love scarves actually tied at the neck)

    1. Oh thanks so much! Backgrounds seem to be everywhere when you start looking around. I really like colorful ones like this one. Although tonight the wind chill is -30 below zero, what a change from the day we did these pictures. I'm going to have to move inside with the photos until the weather changes....burr!

    1. I'm 5'5" and Dean is 6'2". He holds the camera up as high as he can and lets the auto focus do it's job. I like this effect, different angles help round out a post when wearing one outfit.

  25. Where do you find so many gorgeous coats?!? I love the way this one looks both biker and Broadway somehow. And the red pants are just the thing for this dark time of the year.

    1. I buy almost everything at Macy's and a bit of thrifting. Biker and Broadway......that's interesting! I'm just trying to have more fun with my pictures. Maybe kinda goofy, but why not. I've often thought the way we wear seasonal colors, like darker in the winter, really should be flipped. It's so dark now, you need some bright tones.

  28. Oh yes please... black and red, favourites of mine. Also yellow and black. I am sorry, but I like black as a background piece or a contrast piece. But I have the idea I should try and risk more with combining colours.
Love this outfit, this coat. Would have liked to see what blouse you were wearing with the trousers.

    1. It's so cold now, hard to remove coats outside. This week now is unbearable arround 0 with wind chills at -10. Going to try to take pictures tomorrow outside. Glad you like it! Thought about your comment last week about the length of coat. This coat is the same and think you are right, good with pants.

  33. -30?! YIKES! And you looks so stunning and not the least bit chilly… you are so professional ;) Love the coat and can't imagine not being able to wear a black coat of black sweater or black pants. The entire basis of my wardrobe is (you guessed it) black. And yes, my lint roller is by the door - front, back and in the closet as well!

  35. I wouldn't stay away from that black coat either. WOW! Thank you for this fun outfit idea for a casual holiday gathering. It's lively, chic, and holiday ready all in one package. Yet I kind of think the model (you) make it appear one step higher than normal.
