Texture for Fall

As fall approaches I look forward to the big fall issues of the fashion magazines. I enjoy seeing the new items in the stores of Minneapolis where I like to try on pieces from differing collections and think about how I would style them in my own personal way.

Here I was looking for a comfortable and patterned skirt that is paired with leather or tweed. I often mix designers and add at least one thrifted or older piece to mix things up. This bag is dark purple and I've worn it often with black shoes to add some color.

The jacket is from Calvin Klein. There are many classic and desirable pieces in the fall offerings. Calvin Klein is on my list to watch this season as fall sales approach. How do you decide which items to add that the beginning of a new season? Do you wait for the sales or pick up a special piece before it is sold out in your size?

  2. Hi Ann. The patterned skirt is so pretty and in combination with the mixed twees/leather jacket, the outfit looks so chic. I like combinations with older items and new stuff, too. For really expensive items i wait for sale.

  5. I love that jacket, it's so unique! I really like the clean, crisp look of Calvin Klein as well, although I don't own too much of their stuff. I always try to wait till sale season, it's so much cheaper!

  8. That jacket is fabulous. Your hair is looking extra lovely too : )

Lately I've been all about the thrift. It's more exciting. Plus I don't risk running into someone else wearing what I am.

    1. Oh that's too bad, it's a beautiful skirt. Sorry to hear BCBG doesn't ship outside the US. Their site shows stores all over the world. Maybe you can find a store near you and get it that way?

  13. I love the way you mix things - the moto jacket and the swirly skirt look great together! And hurray for a purple bag! I would love to have more colored leather in my wardrobe. My niece has a gorgeous aubergine bag that I covet.

I'm afraid I never pay attention to new trends until they're so ubiquitous they can't be missed. Today I'm wearing mostly thrift-shop clothes, and comfortable because it's Friday.

    1. Thank you Val for your thoughtful comments. A purple or blue bag is a fun alternative to black and I find goes with just about everything. The thrift shop I frequently shop at is packed with fall items right now. I need to spend some time looking there too.

  16. I just love this leather look/Moto Look for fall. I feel anyone can wear it and make if feminine or rocky.

Got my shoes! Haven't tried them with an outfit but love their look.

Could you link this post up to this week's Style hop? http://stillblondeafteralltheseyears.com/2013/09/emmy-style-outfits-modeled-women-45-verizon-voices-fashionista-style-hop/ We are up to 45 link-ups and I so hope to break the 50 barrier this week. 1. Thanks Greetje. Last summer I asked a Mac makeup artist to choose some colors I haven't worn before so we went with orange. Yes orange eyeshadow, lipstick and blush. This color photographs well but seems a bit scary in daily life. I have green eyes so orange as a good contrast.

  20. I am having a great time with that jacket! NICE! MORE THAN NICE! REALLY NICE! lol

Shopping solely for thrifted bargains doesn't quite qualify me to answer the Q but, I can say this. I too love Fall fashion magazines. My sister and I would split the cost of the Seventeen 'Biggest Fall Issue Ever' all while in Jr high and High School. We had to have the newest, latest and the best! We didn't have the budget for the best but we did have the budget for awesome shoes and then we would sew the other stuff. My sis is still a great seamstress. me?...not so much. I stopped sewing when I was first married, because my (then husband) told me my homemade clothes 'looked it'. Ya, thanks buster, no wonder he is the ex for about 27 yrs now. LOL

  21. Lovely jacket, Calvin Klein's collections are always stunning! Very nice on you. The purple bag is great and matches your outfit very well.
Mixing a new piece with something you have in your closet is a winning idea to get a new look, I often do the same.

A new pick for autumn? For me a red, vitaminic bag!!

  32. Oh Ann, I love how you get all sorts of angles on your shots. I need a pro camera dude. My HM can't take my photos. He has odd up-close vision so he just puts the camera down in frustration. Thanks for loving the Seventeen Magazine tale. I neglected to mention that she is nearly 5 years older than me and my only sister. We never fought, which was so nice. We shared clothes, too. Our Mom was our fashion compass and we would be guided by her more than we realized at the time. When we would gather clothes for donation to the nearest thrift place, our Mom would go through the bags on the sly and keep stuff and then 3 weeks later or so, she would be wearing our discarded stuff and she made it look better than ever. (hug)

  33. I do have an advantage when it comes to photography. Because of our work we have all the equipment to take good pictures. I am always competing in the arts with pictures of my artwork so great photography is critical. I think one of the reasons I started blogging is that I always admired editorial style photography and I wanted to see if I could do it. I have a two year degree in photography and BFA in fine art so I'm serious about visual matters.

I'm thinking probably most of us have a large influence from our Moms for better or worse when it comes to clothing. I'm glad to hear your was so positive and sweet. Have a great week Renae! Thanks for the thoughtful comment as always.

  35. To answer your question - I try to wait for sales, I just get so upset when I buy something full price and then see it marked down a week later. Grrr. I can't decide if I like the sleeves the best on the jacket or the body! It's absolutely lovely. And the contrast of the weave with the silkiness of the skirt is just perfect (as usual).

    1. Thanks Deborah. I do like this outfit and I'm looking forward to remixing both pieces. Initially I purchased the black leather skirt to go with the jacket but I thought it was to obvious the matching choice. I bought this skirt because I love the pattern. They were hanging side by side and I thought they made a interesting mix.

  47. Wowee-zowie ... every piece fits together like an elegant puzzle. Great mix, the skirt (mouthwatering!) and the jacket! Shoes, bag, bangles ... everything.
I will, if I can, put special pieces on lay-away to make sure sizes are there! My common sizes go fast, and with so few resources here, I get while the gettin's good. Better for me than on a card. I'm drizzline a little at a vest and moto that I have socked away, and will pick them up before the end of the month. I can't wear them now, and it allows me a little flexability for other purchases that I can wear sooner than later!
Have a great week. You're looking lovely going into it!
