Spring Pastel with Winter Basics

Pastels, especially light blue and mint green, are a trend I'm looking forward to wearing this spring. Winter has been long and cold here in Minnesota so I lightened the colors with a pale blue purse and jeans.  Paired with a textured coat and a thrifted gray cotton sweater, this is an easy outfit for everyday.  I was walking through the juniors department, I saw the coat and thought it was a classic design that any age could wear.

I updated my boots I wear with jeans to these black Ivanka Trump booties with gold trim. These boots are comfortable and easy to pair with many things in the closet. In shoes I wear often, I add Dr. Scholl's For Her Hidden Arch Supports. I like using these because they are an inexpensive way to add extra comfort to any shoe.

Happy colors - they will bring spring to you soon! :) The jacket is great and looks wonderful on you (or is it you who look wonderful in it? :) Glad to see you! 2. I agree that this cut and color of this coat is great for any age. Great find and it's great paired with the soft blues. Hope spring weather will come to Minnesota soon.

  4. Beautiful jacket, Ann! Love its colour and details. The colour of the jeans and the bag is so nice and pretty and looks great with the grey of the jacket. Casual but fabulous look!

  5. I really like this soft shade of blue with the black, Ann...I am not a big fan of pastels, but you might change my mind with looks like this! Beautiful!!

  6. Some of the new pastels look pretty and fresh, but find they wash me out if worn near my face. Love how you've incorporated them here! And I'm definitely going to check out those Dr. Scholls supports.

    1. These arch supports are larger than most. They have an adhesive on the bottom and I use it to see how they feel, then I attach them with double sided tape.

  7. You look like you're ready for spring! I hadn't even thought of pastels yet. The jacket looks like it'll take you right into spring, and it fits beautifully.

I've been really noticing copper lately, and that door is gorgeous!

    1. Thanks Val, this door is the entry to an art studio at the building where I work. It looks like real copper but it's paint.

  10. You must be participating in Sylvia's pastel styling for the week with this outfit…are you? From +40 Style.

    Very classic look.

I like pastels but rarely wear them because I find they wash me out.

I often buy my boots a size up to fit in some kind of insole. Especially if they have a heel.

I agree, this winter has been awful. I still don't seen any end in sight. : (

  11. Nice styling Ann. I love the pale blue, grey, white and black combo. It's very neutral and pleasing to my eye. That jacket is a great piece and could be edged up or kept classic. We are heading in Autumn so not a lot of pastels here yet but I have to confess I don't see myself embracing this trend;)

  12. I love the pattern on that coat! You look so pretty in pastels! Thanks for linking up :)

  13. This is a very nice look. Easy, comfortable yet elegant. The blue is typically good for blonds. I will keep well away from it. I do have similar boots to yours, although yours are slightly nicer (pointed toe, golden buttons). And like you I put support soles in them. Love your bag,

    1. I like wearing blue because it fits my coloring, you are right. I thought of you tonight while trying on a lovely yellow leather zip up jacket. I wanted it, but I just couldn't pull off this color. I know you could!

    2. Yes, we cannot ignore the fact that some colours are better for us and some are better for others. Diversity. Love it.

  14. I love how you worked the pastels into your outfit. Me...I would tend to jump in with all pastels, and then wonder why I look like a large cotton candy...Thank you for demonstrating a restrained hand; it's a good lesson for me! Great boots too Ann!

  15. Pastel colours can immediately change the look of an outfit! And after a long winter ( I always find it too long! ) they have the taste of spring...You look very young and your hair style really suits you...( it seems shorter but very nice!). I think it would be impossible for me to buy clothes in the junior department: I am too tall for them!

    1. My hair is more layered and it is needing a color and cut. I had a hat on this day so a bit flattened! Thanks for the sweet comment Dan.

    1. This is an insightful way to describe powder blue, a chameleon color. I use it often in my art and home because of the way it highlights brights or darks. Thanks Mrs. C.

  20. Ann, great way to brighten up these cold winter days. I've thought about dragging out my white jeans just for this reason (I've never worn them during the winter months before), and you just made up my mind. As always, thanks for the inspiration.

  26. Pretty you, as always. How trim and cool you look! Great buy on your little jacket ... so glad that Jrs. so often work for the rest of us fairly often. I don't know if we're treating age and style differently, or if Juniors are getting more "mature" in design! Perhaps a little of both.
You're boots look great, but they remind me of own issues! I often find the designs from the Ivanka Trump collections appealing, but put them back like they've burnt my fingers when I read the maker. I'm not willing to spend a nickle of my so-hard-earned pennies on enriching her already overflowing coffers ... but then, I deprive myself of a potentially great bag or shoes. No winning, so I just walk away. I know it's unreasonable, but there we are. So glad you look pretty in them, and that's good.

    1. I understand about the Trumps. I've tried on the clothes and had the same thoughts. I didn't buy them. I needed a new pair of daily wear boots and these probably were a return from a larger Macy's and they were just what I was looking for......the right heel and style. I definitely spend my "food dollars" with very careful intensions, local small farms and mostly organic. With clothes it's harder to know where they are made and if it's ethical. You make a good point.
