Adding a Yellow Bag

I bought this yellow sequin bag thinking I love this color but this color doesn't love me. I tried on a jacket in yellow and I looked like I had run a marathon! Unfortunately yellow brings out the red tones in my complexion. Although wearing this color as an accent seems to be a way to incorporate some yellow into my wardrobe. This is one way to wear colors that my not be so flattering to your skin tone.  I've been noticing yellow paired with black, gray and all tones of blue, especially cobalt. With spring around the corner, a touch of bright yellow feels on trend and worth trying.

In my links I have included some yellow pieces which might be fun to add to your wardrobe. Since all the items in this post are older, just the sequin bag is in the links. Adding one on trend color can be a way to refresh pieces you already own.

  1. Classy round toed heels Ann! Both you and Carelia are wearing them this weekend, so I am definitely going to try a pair, or several, on! Ah, what can I say...your signature look with a knockout jacket and one of a kind handbag! Perfection, as always! And of course, the subtle play of colour; love it!!

    1. Thank you Sue. Yes I saw Carelia looking fab in her nude colored pumps. I'm going to try them also because I thought they looked great. You are right this type of jacket and an unusual bag is just the kind of thing that gets me every time.

    2. Sue, you gotta have a pair of round toe pumps, they will look AWESOME with most of the pieces I have seen from you so far,

  8. I´m blond like you and agree with you, yellow is for blond a difficult color. But your way to combinated with your outfit looks very good. I think you got the sense of fashion.I like the cut of the jacket so much.

  9. That bag is just perfect for that outfit. It complements the texture of the jacket beautifully, while playing against it at the same time. Wonderful!

  10. Yellow can be a difficult color to wear. I think I've only had one yellow top ever, but I do have a yellow bag. It is a nice way to get some sunshine color into an outfit.

I love the little leopard (?) print of your collar above the jacket.

  11. That's a fantastic clutch! Perfect for spicing up any neutral look. I love your Mary Jane pumps, I was very close to buy a similar style in nude color. Yellow and black is a great combo and in spite my olive complexion I still wear it. You look terrific in blue also.

  12. Anne I can't wear yellow close to my face either:) But the way you have incorporated the yellow is perfect. This is a lovely outfit. The jacket is beautifully designed and the colour... faint. The subtle pattern mix with the hint of your blouse showing is clever:) You wear structured peices so incredibly well. And as always, gorgeous photos.

    1. Thank you Deborah. I'm looking for a blue wool skirt to go with this jacket. You are so right, structure is my preference. Every once in a while I try more volume in design but it just isn't me.

    1. Thanks Sylvia, of course the jacket is BCBG. I feel like a broken record with my choices this year. Their clothes just fit me and i can buy them for great prices here in Minneapolis.

  16. I had the same idea about yellow some days ago! I wanted to add the colour to my closet but I was not sure it would match my other clothes..
Your bag is very cute and goes well with your today's outfit! And you are wearing wonderful shoes! Yellow and gray is one of my favourite combination...

  22. This elegant and tailored look is what I've come to expect from you but the heels took me for a loop. LOVE! MaryJanes are always big on my win list since I can normally walk in them. Not true for many other heels. Plus I love the retro influence this adds, especially with the patent leather. Such a contrast to your choice of handbag.

You've managed to find yet another perfect backdrop for your shoot. Were you inside? It looks like natural lighting. If you were outside has it warmed up there now? We're still freezing here.

    1. Thanks Suzanne for the thoughtful comments. Yes I'm inside. Many of the buildings near my studio have been renovated to hip homes for coffee shops, micro brewers and other small businesses. There's glass on one side of this place so much natural light and we have been using a flash lately for the posts. It's just too cold. Last night it was -18 and it's getting old. Did my pictures for this week tonight and wore a spring dress because I'm tired of winter.

Glad you like the shoes! I thought they were a fun choice.

  23. Oh my gosh I have the same thing. I cannot wear yellow next to my face, it just washes me out and makes me look AWFUL. But I love love love the neon yellow/chartreuse color so I try to sneak it in in small doses. That bag is amazing! I love that it's neon but then covered in sequins to make it more subtle :)

  24. I love the designs on this jacket! I am an avid needlepointer/seamstress and while I won't do it on leather, I could do this - it might take 100 years though. Looks beautiful on you and that blue color is perfect for your coloring.

  25. I love this jacket, as well. The pattern on it is fabulous. This blue is beautiful with your coloring. Another fabulous post and I'm admiring the fact that is looks outside. As you may have notice, I have been slacking on my post, as I haven't been braving the outdoors. When is winter going to end?

  30. This jacket is so gorgeous, the texture and the color are perfect. And I think it is a very good idea to put a difficult color into an accessory. That mean for me I have to buy a bag in light pink :-) Your clutch is really a special piece and fits to a lot of different styles.

  32. Very creative way to add a color that you love in a small but impactful way. I love yellow, and this clutch packs a punch. But then, so do you and your entire ensemble.

  33. Thank you sweet Ann, for your concern, thoughts and prayers in lil' o my behalf! Hey, you looked into the camera. I do believe that is a first, right? hahahaha. I love the purse but that jacket, omygosh, it is fabulous, fabulous.

  34. Pretty fabulous for a color that doesn't like you! Great way to add that color, and it's pretty adorable with everything else! Fabulous jacket, and the bag works so well with it. Really, it's a pleasure just to look at you in this outfit.

  35. I also think that yellow is a tricky color. I do not have very many things in yellow and like to wear only yellow accessories. Such as small yellow splash of color and not a large area. Although, I wore last summer a bright yellow dress that looked surprisingly good.

Your jacket is stunning. The cut and the pattern. It fits perfectly as if it were sewn for you.
Love your shoes.. so cute :)

    have a wonderful day

  37. What a gorgeous outfit Ann!! Backdrop is fabulous, poses are perfect. I notice you usually look away, which is great, but I love the photo where you look into the camera! I'm loving yellow and just bought my first spring outfit recently which I will post this month. No sign of spring weather-wise here in Ontario, but the birds are starting to sing their love songs, I think they are confused!!

    Happy Friday!
