You are going to know this type of guy when I describe him. He has a big toothy grim, crazy curly mop of hair and he's your best friend. He's your chemistry partner, by choice, and he knows your secrets. I'm describing my buddy Jeff. In the tiny town where I grew up, a young person had a few choices. You could stay and find a job, go to college and disperse across the U.S. (this is what I did) or join the military. Jeff chose the service. As the years rolled by quickly after graduation, I began to organize our 10 year class reunion. I was writing to Jeff and thinking how great it will be to see him, but this reunion would not go as planned. Jeff was one of the first Americans to die in the Persian Gulf War. On the very day of the planned reunion was Jeff's funeral. Television media from all over the state swarmed the service because he was one the first to perish. On patriotic holidays, like the fourth of July, I think of him some 20 years later. I admire his service to our country because I know his intensions were true and his commitment to our freedom was solid. This was just the kind of person he was. Thank you Jeff, I will always honor and remember you in my heart. dress--ellen tracy purse--cole haan shoes--nine west (consignment purchase) necklace--unknown To my Google Friend Connect followers--if you are still interested in receiving my posts, please start following me on bloglovin'. Yellows on Gray
I've been feeling the need as the summer warm temperatures approach to simplify my style. I suppose this is natural. We eat more simply during the summer months so, for me, clothing choices are less labored also. This is a type of outfit I find I wear often. I feel comfortable wearing a simple tailored jacket with a slim cut skirt or pants and contrasting bag with moderate heels. I watched many reruns of the "Mary Tyler Moore" show as a young lady and thought Mary was stylish. I think I see her influence today in this these pictures! bag--calvin klein skirt--loft (consignment purchase) blazer--carole little petite shoes--ellen tracy links my thrifty chic not dead yet style style elixer mingle monday the pleated poppy the tiny heart the mrs. and the momma

Thinking About Dad
As I entered year 52 yesterday, my thoughts today go to my Dad. This is his 90th year and the last 10 have been filled this health challenges. Weekly I drive over to see him at the nursing home where he is living now. Everyday he wears a white shirt and tan wrinkle-free western style pants. He has pale blue eyes and I try to get him to wear a light blue shirt but he says, "No way, I'm a white shirt man." My Dad worked as a farmer raising corn and feeding animals. During his most prosperous years, he wore grey work pants and grey snap buttoned shirts that my mom sent to a professional cleaner! He always dressed in a way that showed respect for how he presented himself to the world. Now when I visit him I do wear something nice, not as fancy as I have pictured here, but something colorful and engaging to return the respect he taught me about presenting myself to others. vest--bcbg knit top--bcbg skirt--dalia collection bracelet--bcbg shoes--donald j pliner links plane pretty not dead yet style bonbon rose girls my thrifty chic style elixir the pleated poppy miercoles modo

Decorative Stitching
This place is a spot where couples and families have taken wedding photos for many years. Not so long ago Dean and I did the same. We were saving money for our down payment for our home, so every penny counted. Our dear friend Anne snapped some lovely photos as the director in me expressed ideas what angle to take them from. (Some things never change!) One thing that has changed is my opinion concerning jeans. As a young person I wore them often and now for years they were not on the radar at all. They were either to long, to low rise or just wrong on my body. This past year I've gotten on the colored jeans bandwagon. Style and Co. jeans at Macys I just love. They are comfortable, reasonably priced and might be worth a try if your in the market for some new jeans. jacket--elevenses blouse--isaac mizrahi shoes--ciao bella jeans--style and co. petite links not dead yet style bon bon rose girls style elixer transatlantic blonde the pleated poppy the mrs. and the momma

It's Black and White
Knit dresses for the summer are so easy. I like wearing them because of the effortless care plus they are cool in temperature. Worn with comfortable sandals and a pretty handbag, I'm ready to go just about anywhere. Yes, like you, I adore clothes and probably always will. Like my paintings, I see each post as a fashion tale to share with you. I'm enjoying getting to know the vast variety of bloggers and take pleasure sharing my weekly adventures into my one woman mini fashion productions. Carelia of My Small Wardrobe is a blogger I admire in the large pool of 40 plus ladies. I find her posts inspiring because she takes an item, say a hat or a pair of shorts, and builds a post around doing something fun like taking a trip and even going fishing! dress--london times shoes --kenneth cole reaction necklace--vera wang purse--catz madris links mingle monday my thrifty chic style elixir transatlantic blonde the pleated poppy the tiny heart peacoats and plaid not dead yet style
