It's Black and White

This is the season for coats here in Minnesota, the icebox of the lower 48 states of the US. Some of you have contacted me in the past wondering where I purchase my coats. This sassy plaid coat is by Guess and is available at several stores listed in my links. I know the "in" style this year is a larger shape, but I like a fitted silhouette.

Worn with my red leather skirt from a past post and classic accessories this coat is ready for winter. The weather was in the 30's today and we were two middle aged romantics, Dean and I, sharing a moment coming up with these pictures!

Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans who read my blog. I appreciate all your comments from all over the world this year and I enjoy so many of your inspiring blogs.

  1. OMG!!! I am speechless. You look stunning my dear and your first picture is my very favorite. The coat, the red part of the dress peeking out, the shoes, the bag…everything is perfect.

  3. What a fabulous coat, and again you've found the perfect background! All those angles and lines playing off each other, even the stripes in the squirrel's coat (Burberry?). You do have the most fabulous coats, and you have plenty of opportunity to wear them in Minnesota!

Now I need to go look at Carelia's blog...

  4. I like the fitted tailored shapes you choose in your coats. Very flattering.

That first photo is so cute.

I also appreciate the different angles of the shots. That second photo with all of the lines and angles is fabulous. So many people wouldn't look up and notice that.

    1. Thanks Suzanne, Dean has a good eye for this kind of detail. I've been trying some of the newer styles and they look too big on me. The search is still on!

  5. Ann that coat is stunning. I am loving the current oversized, almost 80's influenced look at the moment in coats but I just don't think you can beat a beautifully tailored and fitted coat. Beautiful.

    1. I do remember wearing the 80's coats. You know it's really about what you wear under the coat. With the oversized sweaters you need bigger armholes.

  6. Oh my, this is a gorgeous look! And THAT COAT. Sartorial bliss :D

  8. The coat is a keeper, for many years to come. It's the kind of thing that I would not discard and refresh from year to year with new accessories and other trends. You've styled it beautifully, I quite like the addition of your Burgundy skirt, giving it a great edge and looking very classy! FF

  9. I love your checkered coat, Ann, is beautiful. The look with red leather skirt is gorgeous. You look elegant and modern. The shoes and bag are two cuties. Catalunya and Minnesota are far away, but here also it is very cold today.

  10. Gorgeous, and to see you having such fun! I love the coat's back belt-channel and the silhouette with your excellent red leather skirt. Great pumps too - awesome composition with the leaf under the door. :)

    1. That's funny about the leaf. I was taking the picture and Dean said, "Hey I will pull that leaf out." I came back, "No I need it!"

  13. Maybe the style of the year is a larger coat, but i like the shape of your coat more. The patters of the coat is so special and since your last post i´m in love with your leather skirt. Again a outfit, what i definitiv want in my closet.

    Happy thanksgiving, Cla

    1. Thank you Cla. The larger coat just doesn't seem to work on me. I'm 5'5" and have a small frame so I look like Im wearing something just to big. Maybe I haven't found the right design yet. I'm glad you like the outfit. I've been wearing this skirt often and noted on my link that it's only available in XS now. It comes in black and taupe too. I may get one of those colors also.

  15. The coat is so figure flattering, I love how it accentuates your small waist.
Your matching shoes and bag are gorgeous and I think this set of bag+shoes is a new trend now which I definitely love.

    1. Thanks Annette, I'm liking the clean line of these shoes right know too. Can you believe I purchased this purse in 1991? It's probably older than some of the bloggers I'm following!

  16. Ah, another coat lover. This one is fab. I didn't realize you were from Minnesota. I've just met a woman from there at my expat group - in fact, she's having a Thanksgiving luncheon today that I have to miss as my little guy has a cough. I missed Canadian Thanksgiving; it's always a holiday that's special, so family-filled. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Ann!

  17. My favourite: black and white and red. Normally I want a coat to be as long as the outfit underneath. But this time I don't mind as the flow of the skirt follows the flow of the coat. Very pretty. And I adore your shoes. The second and third photo are my favourite.

    1. I'm with you on the length of the coat as long as the outfit underneath. I favor this too. I bought two coats this length this season because the fit and shape is right for me. They both are this shorter length. I may try the other one with pants for my next post.

    2. As you have proven, it can be really nice wearing a shorter coat. It just is more difficult to combine as not everything will match. And I prefer fitted too, which is why my purple coat is going in at the waist.

  18. Black and white is an evergreen of fashion and I find it is classy and modern. The fitted silhouette of your coat is perfect on you. I also like the skirt and find its colour and shape go very well with the coat.
    Lovable photos, full of life!
    Happy Thanksgiving day!

  20. What a coat! I think - well, specialy in my native country - it is very important to chose the most possibly perfect coat, that must be wore for months, and that can be mainly seen of our style and character. I see, you did your best again!

  21. I see red on others and I love it. I cant figure out what I dont have red in my wardrobe. As always Ann, you look great!

  28. You always look so natural and happy on your photos, Ann! Great coat, such a nice texture, and I love it that the red skirt is peeping out, adding some colour to the black and white outfit. And love the fit of your coat, I am actually not a big fan of "over-sized" trend.
